Gambling help, at any hour

In New Brunswick, help with gambling is one free phone call away, at any hour. This page gives the lines and the ways to keep yourself away from Casino New Brunswick or from ALC.ca, in plain words.

Three numbers to keep

The New Brunswick Gambling Information Line is 1-800-461-1234. The Department of Health runs it, and every call is free and confidential. It answers 24/7, on a weekday morning or well after midnight. If the number looks familiar, that is because Casino New Brunswick gives the same one.

Two other provincial lines are worth saving to your phone. The Addiction and Mental Health Helpline is 1-866-355-5550, and Tele-Care 811 is open 24/7 as well. Keep both next to the first number, in case the question on your mind is wider than gambling.

On site, in the pedway

The Responsible Gaming Information Centre, or RGIC, is just outside Casino New Brunswick, in the pedway towards the Molson Canadian Centre. You can reach it by phone at 506-861-4699, before or after a visit. The centre explains the casino's Voluntary Self-Exclusion program to visitors, and enrolment goes through the RGIC.

One detail matters before you enrol. Once a player self-excludes, their Rewards Club membership is suspended right away, and any outstanding balance is forfeited. Questions about how the rest of the program works can go to the same number.

Breaks on ALC.ca

On ALC.ca, a player can take a break of 1 to 90 days. There is also a long break of 6, 12, 24 or 36 months. Once it is set, neither the player nor Atlantic Lottery can reverse it. The site also offers a weekly deposit limit, a daily time limit and a daily wager limit. Choose the long break with that in mind, because it holds until its final day.

Before you sit down

Before you sit down, settle two things, the way you would confirm a dinner reservation. One is the evening's budget; the other is the hour you will go up to your room. Decide both at the start of the night, not halfway through it. A note on your phone does the job. When the hour comes, the decision is already made, and all that is left is the walk back to the hotel.

Questions at the desk

Is the Gambling Information Line only for people who gamble?

The line is not only for players. It is also there for people affected by someone else's gambling. A call to 1-800-461-1234 is free and confidential, and the line answers 24/7.

Where is the Responsible Gaming Information Centre?

It is just outside Casino New Brunswick, in the pedway towards the Molson Canadian Centre. Its phone number is 506-861-4699.

Can a long break on ALC.ca be lifted early?

A long break cannot be lifted early. Once a break of 6, 12, 24 or 36 months is set, neither the player nor Atlantic Lottery can reverse it. Shorter breaks run from 1 to 90 days.
